| Newbie Question
I've created a simple logo that has oval shapes using Carrara3. The problem I'm having is when I render the image at the best setting using HybridRayTracer, the ovals come out slightly jagged and not smooth. There is probably something simple that I'm not doing...any suggestions will be a great help.

| Here's an example
When I created the oval shape, I just used a preset cylinder shape and transformed it to a thin oval. I've included a jpeg of the logo so you can see what I'm talking about. You will also see that the reflection on the chromed oval is banding as well.

you did'nt convert the primitive to a vertex model did you? I had good edges with the primitive until I converted to a vertex model and then the same flats showed up. i could'nt open your file(unknown type error)

I ceated a new file and used the primitive cylinder and did a test render and it is smooth. I then took that same cyliner and scaled it down into a near flat face oval and did another test render and the edges came out ragged again...very odd. I guess you can't manipulate primitives and expect smooth edges.

Typically for any object, you either model in the resolution for smoothness OR you can subD the model. You can also turn on smoothing (a render effect) which may be enough in itself. Carrara's learning curve is not that hard providing you're willing to at least peruse the PDF manual and familarize yourself with 3D concepts. Going from illustrator to 3D is a big leap - don't let yourself get frustrated. At least you picked the RIGHT package to start with - trust me! -Will |
