I'm not concerned about C5's modeler as long as I have Hexagon. I have to agree with the other post. Most of us haven't explored all of C5's features yet. Just looking at the gallery, I knew the power is there. The User Projects at Eovia.com especially the bicycle by J.D. Michot

http://www.eovia.com/solutions/user_...r_proj_jdm.asp

are very inspiring. They keep me going as well as the amazing experts and professionals here. Heck, I probably only need C3 for my needs. I'm sure C6 will have all of the few lacking features that are addressed here.

I've lurked in other apps forums as well. Seems to me that Eovia has the fastest development track record, so I'm sticking with Eovia. I'm pretty sure Hexagon 2 and Carrara 6 will again catch everyone by storm ;-)

I been using Amapi since it was developed and own by a little company name Yonowat see picture.

The Hexagon is so much fun and easy to us. My favorite part is the Line Tool. Its amazing what you can do with it combine with DG.

Personally I would like to see the VM being replaced by Hexagon. I hardly use that room. But I enjoy using the spline modeler. Does anyone uses MB or SB room in Carrara, I wonder.

It will be very interesting to see what Hex2 will bring to us.

Yeah having Hex does make the vertex modeler sort of like a 5th wheel...

But what I had said when I first "discovered" Carrara 5 Pro was I appreciate the fact (coming from Vue) that Carrara has a >decent modeler!<

You can't do squat to imported models in Vue, in Cararra, you can pretty much continue working on them if you actually had to.

I really do like the spline modeler and I feel there's "still a need" for the metablob modeler though I haven't played with it much; there's something about being able to melt shapes together - it can come in handy at times...

Sorta reminds me of Organica if anybody here remembers that. (I searched for the webpage but I guess the software is extinct now? www.coolfun.com)

I've seen comments on the Storyboard room - I sorta feel the same way though I admit I haven't tried using it any...

I've used truespace since version 4, but have now switched to Carrara. I never found the modelling tools in TS quite reliable enough for the sort of things I was doing. Maybe it was just me, but the booleans tended to crash too often, the NURBS surface seams wouldn't be quite right or the patch alignments would be slightly off etc. Successive upgrades (to version 6.7) added loads of new functionality, but these little niggles remained & that's a pity, because otherwise I really liked TS.

So in the search for a solution I started looking for a dedicated modeller and came across Hexagon. Having played with the demo, it seemed to fit my needs very well & so I got a copy.

Moving on a couple of months and version 7 of Truespace was launched. The regular upgrade price of $399 (ouch!) versus a companion version of Carrara made me take a hard look at what I used 3D for - and for me, Carrara paired with Hex offers the features I need (good modelling, good shader editor, good renderer with ambient occlusion etc) at a reasonable cost.

MilesW,

I did not like the magic ring thing of TS 5. I think Carrara has a much better modeler than TS and Hexagon is even better than Carrara. True Space 7 is a total rewrite. I don't think the modeler is all that great but the GUI is so much better than in the past.

I was thinking about getting TS 7 becuase of the new RT previews while animating. I like it but my previews in Carrara 1, 2, 4 and even 5 are better than what I used to get with Bryce 4 and 5. Having said that I will not buy TS because I know Carraras will have a better preview/animation window in version 6 or 7 and it works ok for my needs now. The rigging in Carrara is super easy but I do wish it was a little better.

I do remember Organica, it was made by Impulse Inc. Strange but fun little application.

You are right about rigging in Carrara Medeamajic, I hope next version gets updated.
One of the least talk feature in Carrara is the Director's Camera I love using it to align my object when C.Detection is not enough.

I imported the Poser 6 Helix robot into Carrara 5. The figure bent at the knees just like in Poser when his feet hit the floor and I pulled his hips. I can also move the whole figure like in Poser 6. I can not get my figures made in Carrara to do this. I wish my Carrara figures could drop to the the floor/building and have the feet make use of collission detection with the floor/building. It keeps the rigging of Poser imports but I can not seems to rig my Carrara figures the same way. I think Carrara 6 will put Poser to shame.

Started with Poser more than 4 years ago. For outdoor scenes I started with Vue d'Esprit 4. For modelling I used Cinema 4D 6 CE. Upgraded to Vue 5 and thought about upgrading to Infinite (mostly because of the eco-system), but didn't like the way e-on went with their shop.

Then some people at Renderosity showed me the way to Carrara 5 Pro and this really fullfilled my needs for a simple workflow. Poser for smaller scenes. Transposer for easy integration and a great shader system in Carrara. I'm far more pleased with it than with the unstable Vue 5 Esprit. I do only stills at the moment, so I'm quite satisfied.

Xfrog completes my workflow. Carrara has a very great potential. Hope we get a better grip on water shaders and realistic skies.
