Should the sky render do this ?

I am playing with the terrain generator, and i had a background sky and sun from the browser library loaded.

The render is shown below, the light looks unrealistic how it colours the front of the two highest mountains, should it do this ?

Any chane of posting your .car file to have a look at? Or at least the actual names of the items which you loaded from the browser may help.

Unfortunately, silly me, I have been playing with it since i posted, so don't have the original position etc.

However, in moving it, this happened, which seems to be the same effect (clouds ?)

I am posting the car for this.

I just changed the sky to "Warm Sunrise" and the problem went away. Which preset did you use again? I did the change via "Atmosphere" where I usually enter skys from in the fist place -Scene-Atmosphere etc. Perhaps the problem is in using the browser--I will try that next.

I have just done a from scratch exercise. Starting with double clicking a sky into the Assembly room then adding a default terrain but can not duplicate the problem. Lets know--- if you keep a record of the exact proceedure--if it happens again.

Try using the realistc sky, the regular sky is older technology. Your render problem is that the height of the cloud plane is too low.

That is what I was going to say. It is the altitude of the cloud's plane.

Thanks for the help guys

In some ways I am glad it wasn't too obvious......I don't feel quite so silly

Carrara just has so many bells and whistles plus multiple ways of applying them...makes it very powerful, but on occasion trips you up

Now I might be being really thick here or missing something in the manual.....but why does my sky have no visible sun while the test scene render has a visible one ?

And yes..I know this must be one of the most boring scenes in the universe, but stripped it down to try to figure out what I am doing wrong.

You need to enable "my scene" instead of "default scene".

I did that, and if you try it on my .car, you will find you get a pretty pink/purple sky, but no visible sun disc, whereas the 'default' setting clearly shows the sun visible.

Hmmm thats strange, just downloaded the car and tried the render and got my nice purple sky (minus a sun disc)...perhaps i saved it wrong..should I save with external, local or internal settings ?

In addition, to clarify in case its not clear, I set the sun in a realistic sky. I edited settings for sun, and changed it so the sun would be visible in NW sky. The sun IS visible in the default setting render in the sun attributes editor (screenshot), but not in the same editor if set to 'my scene' or in my scene if I render it. This confused me.

The default scene is always looking straight into the corner of the grid, which is is exactly northwest. If you have rotated the camera any, the "default" view will be different from "my scene" and you will have to keep that in mind when postioning the sun.

The bit about saving---does it make any difference to the .car file usability at our end?
(Hope someone answers because I never fiddle with the default) Have you tried starting again from scratch with your exercise?--ie. isthe problem able to be duplicated?

Thanks for the input...it was because my scene was not oriented quite right for the sun to be visible, and the sun has to be much lower on the settings 'globe' that intuitively I feel it should

You say you edited the settings for the sun, and changed it-------??? I thought the default settings for the sun are always in the NW sky!

The default render in the sun settings is always NW...and I could see the sun clearly in that.

However, my scene was not quite oriented NW (though I thought it was) and therefore the sun wasn't visible where I expected it. I tried tweaking the orientation of my scene and the height of the sun...and eventually I found it.

I wish that the sun was visible in the scene layout like the lightbulb or spotlight is..it would make it much easier to position
