Whenever I set up an outdoor scene, I start by postioning the main terrain first. I only rotate the terrain and don't rotate the camera east/west. That way the sun is oriented in the same direction as in the preview positioning sphere.

What a good idea

Its amazing how sometimes you can forget that there is a difference in rotating camera and rotating the scene
