Rendered edges on smoothed objects - not smooth?

Can anybody tell me what's causing this tendency for the profile of these hills to be sharp in places rather than continuing the curve?

They are smoothed (sub-d) objects that show no problems within the rendered objects internal area only at their peripheral edges.

Regards

Just curious, the snow texture has bump maps yes? what happens when you render with shader without bump maps.

Have you tried upping the smoothing in Carrara? I have seen this with large curved objects. Upping the smoothing (in the modelling room) smoothed the curve.

Alternatively perhaps the hill needs more polygons?

Thanks folks I'll try those suggestions.

The sloth in me tends towards just painting them out post render.
