Puke Bones and constraints?...

Forging ahead learning C5 Pro, I was playing around with bones and constraints and I've noticed some weirdness with ball joints and I'm wondering if it's a bugg or I'm missing something?

First, I noticed that (again) the manual is different from the actual software as far as with Axis constraints?

The manual shows a dialog with 3 radio buttons (x y z) and then the angle dial (pg 408).

What's in the software is a dialog with x y z editing fields and the constraint dial??
I can understand the radio buttons; set your axis and then the limitation but 3 edit fields - ugh!
Is this considered a more flexible system that what's presented in the manual?
Picking an axis and then setting the limits is certain easier to grasp IMO...

Now, with the ball joint, I'm not getting any kind of direct manipulation widget in the workspace? If I click the widget button on the property page, nothing happens? It works for the Axis constraint; it toggles though 3 states off, on and on again (not sure what the 2nd of the two on states do?)

At one point I was clicking the direct manip button for the ball joint and a dialog popped up saying "internal error" but the program didn't crash or anything - still no onscreen GUI for the constraints editing.

Anyone knows what's up with this?

Dry

Wow, so nobody had played with bones yet or in particular the Ball Joint?...

Okay, well I guess I'll report this as a bug - I prolly won't do that much character animation directly in C5P anyway but I at least wanted to get a solid handle on the bones and constraint system for character rigging...

Hi Will. You might need to post a pic of your problem. I dont know much about it but for what its worth - In the attached file the ball constraints seem to work ok for me

Have you really got to the stage of needing to understand ball joints and constraints yet ? If you were more into working with just the bones this might make things easier to understand for you. Anyway, like Tony, a picture is better thn a thousand words.

Not sure if I am reading the post right. Are you trying to make a skeleton with IK and constraints? A screen shot would be nice.

Puke

Basically yes - I created a simple hip with thigh bone...

I'll capture some pics this weekend but the simple problem is when I select the top of the thigh bone, constrain it as a limited ball joint and then attempt to click that little button in the properties to display the GUI widget for adjusting the little button doesn't click at all??

I can turn off and on the widget for an Axis constraint, just not the ball joint.

This is version 5.0.3 - so are you folks saying you can turn off and on the widget for ball joints?? The button doesn't change states at all when I click it...

I imagine you know where all the icons for bones and skeletons are but just in case I have another screen shot. I think the all bones icons should be in one area of the GUI and side by side instead of spread all over the GUI. I hope Carrara 6 will have them together.
