| Cube ![]() | Local Axis
I am trying to align the manipulator to an objects local axis. I understand how to move the Hot Point but, for the life of me I can't seem to align the manipulator in the direction I need to move the object. In 3D Studio MAX you just use the local axis function and it aligns correctly. I searched through the Carrara documentation but no luck. Can this be done? I'm sure there has got to be a way. See the attached file. I put a white line to represent the direction I need to have the manipulators x-axis pointing. Under Motion - Transform I have the constraint set to local. You would think this would do it. Thanks, Marc |

That is what I was afraid of. Carrara not having this ability is odd. This comes in handy in many cases. If you look at the simple example (attachment) you will notice that the board and the ball have the same axis configurations based on the axis of the universe system. When I change the boards transform from World to Local logically the manipulator should change based on it’s angle to the world universe axis. Then, I should be able to match the ball’s axis to match the board so you could move the ball up the board. The Local function under Motion/Transform seems not to be working or its use is something other than what I understand it should be. This feature is standard in most 3D programs. It seems to me as advanced as Carrara is it should have this feature available. Marc |
