Hate to harp on Symmetrical modelling but...

How about this method of implementation:

>Drag the Vertex Object from the Primitive Tools bar into the Document Window

>Go to the Construct menu and choose an object type

>The 'Insert (object type)' dialoge has been expanded to include a check box that allows you to "Make object symmetrical'. If checked, further options fully saturate (making the option selectable) to enable the user to choose which axis of the model they wish to edit (x, y, z - or +)

>The user hits OK and the object appears in the Vertex Model Workspace. The editable axis (possibly) has a different shade than its symmetry to serve as a visual cue. The object and it's symmetry are visible in real time in both the Model and Assemble Room.

>All edits made to the editable axis (shading domains, morphs, weight painting, etc.) are applied it's symmetry and all edits are retained when the Convert button is selected.

Hope that made sense...
