What is fixed in 5.03 update?

I've been around here a bit evaluating Carrara and was wondering what was does the latest patch fix? I'm particularly interested in the vertex modeller bug I reported because I won't be buying until that is fixed as it is quite a big issue for me.

Here's the bug I'm referring to

http://www.eovia3d.net/showthread.php?t=5736

It was confirmed as a bug by Eovia, just want to know if it got fixed?

It has not been fixed with the 5.0.3 update. Just checked and manipulator placement is still off. Also noticed on that the manipulator is not centered on the polys normal either.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I actually re-read the email I got about the bug and am not that happy.

Quote:
It does not seem like a major problem so I am not sure we will fix it in the next
update. We'll make sure it is fixed in the next version of Carrara.
Does that mean version 6? A bug like this hinders precission modelling so I would have thought it would be serious - Hexagon has exactly the same bug.

Still, at least I haven't spent my money.

Eovia, unlike others, does not seem to wait until all bugs are fixed but sends out updates progressively as they are working through them. With others you may have to wait for version 6 in 12 months. Your bugs, and others, will probably be fixed in update 0.4 ( or 0.5) in the matter of weeks.

bwtr: or perhaps, as the support mention it, on the next major release. Something you have to know, is that the developpers fix the problems by priority. This bug don't make the application crash or freeze, or corrupt your datas, or create a big slowdown.
Then, Developpers fix all important bugs first, and after, this kind of bugs.

But you have to consider that they also have to work on the next major release of Carrara too...

And it the same for all developpement/software company..

If you wait for software to be perfect before you buy, you will never buy any.

Patrick you are so right.....Thats why I would never buy software from a company that does not have its own / sub related forums.. Thats in my opinion how software becomes close to perfection it users.... I am new to eovia but I see they are pro active. Erain is the maker of Swift 3D and they too are very pro active with their software. gj eovia

That is so naive, the fact is this software is used for 3D modelling so you would expect that it got the basics right. If I want to accurately rotate a face I cannot do it with this software because of this bug as the point of rotation is wrong and there is no way to change it. By the way, I never said anywhere that I wanted perfect software, but I do want it to be able to perform certain basics before I buy. If Eovia don't consider this as a high enough priority to fix before version 6 then I will not be buying version 5 only to have to pay for the bug to be fixed when version 6 is released.

Thank you for report ninetwenty.
Please be sure that Eovia will figure out how it can be included in the current development schedule.
But please understand that the engineering team cannot update the development schedule of Carrara upon any - even fully valid - request from one of the more than 55,000 Carrara users and XXX,000 people who are using the trial version.
All reports are duly recorded, classified, and then a priority is assigned for each issue. Then, it is the responsability of the product manager to spread corrections and improvements into the schedule of the next releases.

Please stay tuned for the next updates of Carrara in any cases.
I hope your request will be able to fit sooner in the planed improvement schedule of Carrara.

As a last word, if I'm not wrong, Hexagon manipulator on a face works perfectly. We did not notice the offset positioning issue in any case in Hexagon... and if you look for an affordable high-performance solution for Modeling + Rendering (and more), the very agressively priced Hexagon + Carrara 5 Bundle is just the perfect solution for you.

Best - Laurent / Eovia

Here's a screenshot from the Hexagon demo using an octahedroon which shows the bug in action.
