Puke Shader room - problem with .PNG file type

Hi,

I have tried loading a .png file into the bump channel of a shader I'm working with. I keep getting an "Open Error" with some files. This is using Carrrara5 Pro on Windows XP.

I have tried saving the png file as Interlaced, and non-Interlaced, but it doesn't seem to help. The file is 2544x2544 pixels in size, but the same file as a jpeg works.

Thanks for the help,

Glen

Well, if the jpeg works than your problem is solved I think? ;-)

No, it doesn't fix the problem in Carrara if it's a bug with the png support. Besides, the png format is better since it is a lossless format unlike jpeg.

Try increasing the bit depth of your png up to 24 - I find that low bit depths (eg 4) have this problem but higher ones are ok.

Hi there,

Thanks are, it's fixed! Someone suggested I try using a different program to create the png files, so I grabbed the latest copy of The GIMP. I opened up the files, converted to greyscale and resaved as png. Worked great! Apparently, the png support in Corel Draw/PhotoPaint 10 is a bit dated.

So it looks like Carrara is working fine!

Cheers,

Glen
