Rendering for NTSC video - Polyloop

I'm attempting to render video for 16:9 NTSC. I've got the resolution (720x480) and pixel aspect ratio (1.2), but my editing program is telling me the frame rate is not correct. Is there a way to set Carrara for 29.97 frames/sec?

Most programs should let you render at 640 X 480 uncompressed. Most video editing programs should be able to take in 640 X 480 uncompressed if you hard drive is fast enough.

I was asking about frame rate, not resolution or codecs.

This came up very recently. It may have been on Renderosity. I think the answer was no but the thread may have suggested a get around. If i come across the thread I will let you know.

You can render at any frame rate. Your video software may or may not add the odd and even feilds. It may look funny. Edius from Canopus works. You need not worry about Carrara as much as the software you use. With most video software you can set the timeline for 24 FPS proggresive style, 25 FSP PAL or 30 FPS NTSC . In a nut shell the video editing software should be able to take just about any resolution or frame rate and make it work with the projects setting.

What editing software are you using? Most should be able to handle clips at 30fps and make the adjustment without any problem.

Pinnacle Studio 9. Maybe I'll try the Adobe Premiere Elements Demo again.

I'm not very familiar with Pinnacle, but I think that is where the problem lies - video editing software really ought to be able to handle clips at 30fps and generate NTSC output. Have you tried setting the project in Pinnacle to 30fps?

If all else fails, and you don't want to change your editing software, you may want to download virtualdub - it's freely available, and will convert the frame rates. (You need to have the right codecs on your system of course, but I gather you already have).

Incidentally, if you do decide to replace your editing software, my recommendation would be Sony Vegas Movie Studio.

ETA: At the weekend, I did a whole bunch of test renders from Carrara at 3fps to storyboard a project. My editing software was set to 25 fps, and didn't care - it just interpolated the rest of the frames. Your problem is definitely in the editing software, not Carrara.
