Stops Responding

Hi, I'm trying to modify a terrain in another modeler. A couple of questions come up as I am such a noob here with C5.

1. Will I loose completely the procedurals (bump, noise. etc) I have built on the terrain by going to another modeler - it will never return to the terrain modeler? Right?

2. In any case, when I try to go to the vertex modeler, it just stops responding for over an hour. Locked up. The terrain is fairly high res - 513 preview and 2049 render. My machine has 1 gig ram, 1.8 AthlonBarton, 256 mb nvidia 6200. Is the high res terrain too much for it? It wouldn't seem so.

Thanks a lot. wb

My suggestion would be to avoid trying to modify a terrain in another modeler, especially a higher res one. Carrara has a paint feature for modifing terrains. It works better if you paint on low resolution and then increase after.

Ok Patrick, thats the way it seems to be best. One question - how then, can I alter or paint with predictable relationship to other objects already in the scene - the assembly room? Maybe I should post a pic with this question.

Ok, in the circled area, I want to raise the edge of the terrain to contain the middle lake. IN some other areas, I want to add another terrain under the first to represent a different sloping shore line material alltogether. It would be very helpful to have the relationships visible while modifying.

Can it be done in some workaround I am missing?

Sincere thanks. wb.

OK, I'm figuring it out - just that the terrain is so high res that I hve to turn off all the filters I had going before I could even move it into view. Now i got it. Now I can paint it and see what I'm doing. thanks, wb
