Ambient Occlusion question

Can anyone explain the usage of this tool.

I have upped the photon count to 75000 No change. I have upped the occlusion radius to 1000inches and beyond as well as going down to 0.10inches. No change. I have upped and dropped the intensity of the indirect light but all that does is wash out the top half of the character. The underneath always renders pretty dark and seems never to change.

ANy ideas thoughts tutorials?

Cheers

That is correct, ambient occlusion needs ambient lighting or your images will be dark.

In my latest UV tutorial, the last image uses Carrara's occlusion. The effect that is noticable for this particular render is the area slightly around the barrels against the wall. Those areas have a dark "glow" like effect to show that there would less light in that area. With OCC the render times stayed extremely fast and I didn't brother with a full GI solution.
