Carrara and Terragen Composition

Hi all,

This is my very first post here.

I'm testing Carrara 5 (Demo) and beside the good Carrara Landscape possibilities I would like to be able to composite Carrara animations with Terragen Landscapes.

My interest is because I'm expecting to use Carrara 5 Pro and TG2 in a project that I'm producing. Anyone knows if there is any trick to synchronize booth, light and cameras between Carrara and TG to allow composition?

Any tip would be much appreciated!

Many thanks for your support!

my opinion

well it depends if you want to make the final render in carrara or in terragen?

if terragen is the final renderer you can always work on carrara for the basic landscape and export the file in 8bitraw format..

for the camera placing well you can work on coordinate in carrara and note down the camera position height rotation etc.. and then reproduce it in terragen on a local scale... (i haven't tried yet)

if you plane to import in carrara, the landscape will need to be exported in greyscale and imported in carrara landscape modeler as for the textures I think you might be able to export them as well.

can you be more precise?

don't think you can do much more for the moment

Hi,

Many thanks for your interest.

As you probably well know, composite is the act of combine different rendered layers in any software able to do so.

Putting in other words:

I’m going to use Carrara to render figure animation and Terragen to render the landscape. The problem is that to achieve an effective composite booth renders should interact and for that booth cameras and lights (TG2 and Carrara) must be synchronized related to the terrain (landscape)!

Anyway, don’t bother… I’ll try to figure out a way to sync all of that!
In fact I’m planning to write a conversion batch to that propose!

Thanks anyway!

oki, well I thought you might want to do so but I wanted to be sure!

well I think for the moment tricking with the greyscale map can help position your camera.

if you manage to create a script please do inform me I will be most interested...

good luck
