Smile Fur with surface replicator

Is their a way to make fur ,lets say for a teddy bear, with the surface replicator? or do I have to exported into Poser and give it hair?

I know how to do long hair in Hexagon, it was in a tutorial or a forum, but that was long hair and it was a color and alpha map.

This would propably be possible I guess. Why don't you just try? Make an "hair-object" and put it via surface replicator onto the teddy. I don't know whether it will take a lot of time and ram to render... ?
It would be very nice if you show us your results.

I think that you will get the best results with the Anything Grows plugin by Digital Carvers Guild:
http://digitalcarversguild.com/plugin.php?ProductId=5

I love it ...

The fur on this teddy bear was made with Anything Grows for example. ( ..and i don't pretend that this is a perfect usage of AG BTW )

I don't think Anything Grows is as good as the Poser Dynamic Hair or what 3DS MAX uses. I hope Carrara implements a hair and fur system for Carrara 6.0. A cloth program would not hurt.

Definetly not convincing, did you tried to make 2-4 poly objects (no thickness) for your strands and multiple surface replicators for the same object?

You cannot (from my expirience so far) get fuzzy things like tennis ball (that would need 20 milion strands), but grass (and carpet) on the terrain is most certanly doable if carefully planned...

Here is my little experiment with 3 different strands and 3 different surface replicators on the same object all maxed out (30000 objects)...

Looks quite good, but I guess that this amount of objects would not be enough for a whole teddy.

Try using a small flat plane with a texture on it (alpha map of hair strands) ?

Warning Just to ley you know guys

I tried using 1 milion strands on a single object...

Here is the result (still not convincing enough), obviously less processor demanding fur plugin is really needed, badly

Cheers

I think the popular demand for such a plugin is demonstrated by the number of hits this thread has had in 1 month !

Other option is if Digital Carvers Guild could further develop anything grows but wouldn't solve cloth.

Yep

Fur plugins in general suck if they are polygon based, the best ones out there are solved as rendering effect, good spline definition based long hair is needed as well

Carrara has improved the landscaping, and terrain features for version 5. I can only imagine they may add even more in version 6. Things like water editors for water falls a oceans would be nice. Carrara offers a lot for the price and I think things will get even better in version 6 and 7.

Wow, I didn't think about the water editor - yeah, that too!

Seriously though, just a coupla more "inches" with the environmental features and Carrara would be at the front of the class for sure!

Carrara has a water editor that can do ripples and small rolling waves but it can not do waves that crash on the beach or white caps.

Have you seen the Carrara movies by Astro Films with all the waves with foaming crests?
