| [Vertex Modeler] Symmetry while modeling
I really hope this makes it as a dot update (like in Hexagon) feature. There was a poster in the 'rosity forum that was really obsessed with this as a "must have" feature in Carrara 5. While I'm not to that point (there's much more fun things to be obsessed about :D ) I can see his/her point about how symmetry would be good to have. Sure Hex has Symmetry, and I can export a .car file from hex and use it just fine. But what happens when I have to tweak the mesh? I have to select the mirroring point and make my changes from there, being very careful not to go over the "axis of symmetry." This can get tedious very quickly. And I feel that I lose a lot of spontaneity having to select one side and then the other... Morph targets would be easier to do with symmetry. eye blinks could be done on one side and then mirrored to the other. Maybe there could be an option to either create a new morph target from the mirror or to join the mirror to the current morph target. --As a side bar, I've tried to create a half-figure and create morphs on it and thought that a duplicate with symmetry would also dupe the morphs, well in Carrara 4 just the mesh gets copied. No morphs or any thing outside of shading domains got duplicated, if I remember correctly. -- As a character animator/cartoonist this feature would speed things up quite a bit and make creating morphs a lot easier. If symmetrical morphs can be made using Hex and Carrara, I'd be delighted to know how to do it. thanks a lot for any feedback m!ke |

Maybe this Carrara plug-in may be of interest to some: Quote:

I actually have Project Gemini. What I miss with this is that I have to switch to the Assemble room to get a feel for the model instead of seeing what I am doing updated on the mirrored model in real time. That is, unless I am doing something wrong...are there any tutorials for Project Gemini? Sometimes I get a 'tear' that runs down the middle of models I am working on with it. |

I have project Gemini and it is a good plug in, but like Naes3d -- I would like to see the *entire* model being updated. Also, this may be a glitch on how I use it, but gemini triangulates the model the last time I used it (in '04). Again, the major thing (to me) is being able to make symetrical morphs and have them saved as one or two separate morphs. mike |
