It's official, Carrara 5's poser import is the best thing ever!Is it dual core aware?

Does anyone know if my carrara 5 beta will be aware of the second core of my new pc that is being built with a dual core processor?
Thanks,
Jarrett

I'm running a dual core processor with the C5 beta and it does recognize it for test renders, sky previews and final rendering. You will see 2 squares in the render room like in the network render. I also use the network to render and get 3 processors going at once with no problem.

Carrara is also aware of HyperThreading processors (even if dual core is much better ) since version 3 i think, as long as your BIOS and OS support it. Don't forget BTW to check 'Enable Multi Threading' is the render room params !

My important question is, does support Carrara the dualcore-processor for all actions?
Physiccalculating, GI / Coustic-Photoncalculating, Editorworks like complex scenes by running an animation, previewrendering at the depth of field-editor for example...
Carrara 4 supports HT only at the final rendering. All other actions C4 use only "50" % of the processor-power.
@patrick210, i understand you right? Carrara 5 support dualcore for all actions?

I want to buy an AMD Dualcore-processor

Hi ,we are making 2 (unofficial) tests with rendering time with both version in those topics .It's a fact that Marcel who owns a bi_xeon is rendering 2 time faster than anyone else

HERE you can test your config : BASIC Scene
and Here The 2,1Millions poly scene

what you have to do is to download the attached file of each first message .Just open as it is and render as it is without tuning any settings by yourself

Nice! I think my next setup will be a Dual Opteron with 4 GB ram, and a PCI-e nVidia Quadro FX540.

update, dual socket 940 boards are available, but xp only recognizes 2 processors. Will carrara run on xp server software? I'd love to get 4 cores (2 dual opterons) up and running, but without verification, I have a hard time making that purchase.

There is a Patch for XP so the XP see a Dual Core as a Single Processor. In some cases, you also have to update your motherboard's BIOS.

Without the XP Patch, it will see a Dual Core as 2 Processors, like having 2 single core Opterons (2 processors).

You will have to hunt through Microsoft's website to find it, unless somebody posts a link to it.

This brings up another point -
1. Will the patch allow you to have 2 render threads? If so, then it will be a simple matter to upgrade to a dual socket 940 with (2) dual core opterons and get 4 render threads. The lowest I found windows server for was $560 online, a pretty good deal, but really if you dont have to pay that out, you are 2/3 of the way towards paying for a massive render speed increase. Now if we can get poser and some others mp aware, we can really get moving!

That link only addresses Windows Server products. Well, it does mention XP Home and Pro, down in the FAQ, both of which are license per installation.

Home: Single Processor, single or multicore.
Pro: 1 or 2 Processors, single or multicore.

You wouldn't need the Server product.

XP came out before Multicore processors.

I'll see what I can dig up on other sites.
