| bijan ![]() | [Carrara]I could use tips on making tutorials using Carrara. Hello everyone. I have been exploring my new Carrara 6 and I'm really pleased with its ease of use and power. I'm a newbie and learning a lot from all the experts here and else where. I thought If I tried to make a simple tutorial for newbie's like my self (if there are any), it would help me learn the program better. So I made this (my first ever) tutorial on making an animated logo using Carrara 6 Pro. http://www.3dworld2.com I would appreciate any suggestion or tips. bijan Last edited by TaNoFF : 8th October 2007 at 18:59. | Brian ![]() | Firstly, the web site connection is "dirty"--it is not possible to directly connect via clicking on that web site address. Some thoughts. Your tutes could be assissted with printed on screen explanations added maybe. There are also some gaps in action, --delete some of the no action areas to speed things up. Other than that you are off to a good start and its good to see someone trying. You may want to look at the latest free version on CamStudio to which you can attach sound and also some of the cheap or free SWF type production approaches. (The Motion Artist app comes to mind but also '-----cant think of the name "WINK!"--thats it!) |

| bijan ![]() | Thanks Brian for the feedback. I fixed the link. I have Windows Vista Ultimate Operating System (in my opinion the worst OS) and I had difficulty running a great free screen recorder program called "CamStudio". I then tried CamStudioPro at $29.95 which was a good package with other tools for making tutorials, but I was not able to make it run properly on my machine (I blame the Vista for it). I then found several other low cost programs that did screen recording. My favorite two ended up being "Screen Video Recorder" at $24.95 and "Bulent's Screen Recorder at $39.95 or if you want post production tools as well $89.95. I finally decided on Bulent's full package which allows me to do a lot of post production editing including annotating on the video. I will use your suggestion on shortening the dead spaces in the video and adding annotation to the video. Also thank you for the link to the other screen recorders. I will check them out. |

| bijan ![]() | Hi 3dguy, I have not explored all parts of Carrara yet and I can not answer your question. There is a Carrara expert here that I know about, by the name of Mark Bremmer. His website has many free tutorials http://www.markbremmer.com/pages/TutMain.html . He also has video tutorials on VTC.com http://www.vtc.com/products/Carrara-5-tutorials.htm . You may want to direct your question to him for an answer or maybe Thomas can answer it. Looks like you are much further ahead of me. Maybe I can learn something from you. ![]() |

| Ray Harryhausen Maddness ![]() | Actually TanoFF I really think you're better then me in the Carrara department. What got me in a lot of trouble when using Carrara is finding diff ways of doing something that most users won't try using in their 3D Carrara app... now if they had a cheap facestation & Mimic 3 room in C6... it would of been worth the bugs! ![]() |

| bijan ![]() | Hi 3dguy, I made a short tutorial on how to move eyes in a head model. I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for. Look at it and let me know if I can help you. http://www.3dworld2.com |

| Vertex ![]() | Hi, I am a newbie myself and have found the following site has a great tutorial for carrara 5.1 pro which is what 6 is mostly made of aside from the added features and water primitive. This is the site -> www.vtc.com Oh and by the way they let you have the first couple of lessons free and the work files are availible when you pay. I would suggest that if you like the tutorials that you download the 5.1pro demo from daz and use it to learn carrara from vtc site. Just my two cents ![]() |

| Cube ![]() | An example of some enjoyable tutorials are Andrew Kramers After effects tuts. http://www.videocopilot.net/index.html Some humour, easy to follow without being boringly repetetive (repeating the same instructions 3 different ways..yawn)...screen/video is big and clear, sound is excellent , the guy really knows his stuff, tutorials are all free, and now there are almost 50 of em' so a huge range of effects are taught. ...Ive grown to like them anyway. smudgee |

| bijan ![]() | Thanks polydude for the link. I have checked vtc.com. The tutorials are by Mark Bremmer. He is very good. Thanks smudgee for the link. I checked a few of Andrew Kramer's tutorials, and they are fantastic. Too bad they are not on Carrara. You are right about his style and quality of his tutorials. As you know I'm in the process of learning and these tips are certainly beneficial. bijan |

Thanks again TaNoFF,.. [Back To The Vertex Modeler Room] I'm now am having problems with the mouth location area... well mainly the opening lips and morphing a perfect closed mouth (heck i'll even take a half-way decent morph close mouth). The problem has started when I try to closing the lips I already had try weight paint and some other setting. The mouth vertex area really bulk-up when I set it to morphing targets. [The Vertex Modeler Test run] Now if I just do a simple vertex selection of some polygons and relax some soft vertex around the mouth area everything did tested okay. The vertex mouth area skin behavior doesn't show any signs of polygons damage. Once I had notice how I needed to select certain areas from the mouth with a perfect close lips I started back to duplicate the same process by going back to the morph targets setup tab and all h*ll had broken loose! [My Lips been Busted] I end up with vertex kinks overlay waveform, built up bulk lines, textures burn distortions. I did try to attack some these obstacles by raising up the weight paint count numbers bar but all bets are off! Is there another tool to help me in this type of problem or do i need another type of step precaution to help me when using Carrara morphing targets. ![]() Last edited by three3dguy : 23rd October 2007 at 23:57. | |

| bijan ![]() | Hi 3dguy, Sorry for the delay. I have been working on a couple of tutorials and didn't have a chance to check on your question. As you know I'm not an expert, but a newbie who is learning as I make my tutorials. I did read a little bit about using morph targets and did some vertex manipulation. It seems to work fine. I have not used morph targets with bones. Is that what you are using? The pictures you have posted show no change in the position of the upper jaw. Have you tried to reposition the bones? Is your model a low polygon model? May be you should increase the number of facets. Do some subdivision in those areas that you are manipulating. I'm going to do some more reading on this subject and if I come up with an answer I'll post it. ![]() Cheers |
