Dry Wondering about hair...

I haven't tried this yet (and it may be totally wacky)... but...
I was wondering if you did a C6 model with hair all neatly combed and coiffured, would it be possible to export your model with hair as an .obj file and have the hair in that file?

What would you get if anything?

But?--surely there are some file types that it can be exported into!

thanks, Courel.
I don't know the mechanics of the hair, but I doubt that it is 'real' geometry...?

It's part geometry (guide hairs) and part shaders and interpolation I think and just plain old nice programming. The only file format it will export to is .car, which makes perfect sense when you think about it.

My biggest unanswered question about hair is how it looks when rendered through the NPR or Toon Pro.

If you want a toon output it sort-of defeats the purpose of using realistic hair. I havn't tried it myself, but I assume it "works".

I have a question about the new hair feature.---

You know in the tutorial of the surface replicator, were you use a black/white map too tell where to generate the trees,
well I was wondering if the new hair feature has that same option aswell?

That all depends on what you are trying to do. There are other applications for dynamic hair other than creating hair.

And there are at least a couple of reason that one might want to use an NPR on hair for the purposes of rendering hair

Anime/Manga Cel shaded look

Faux Media

Or maybe just to get an effect that may not be as easy to achieve through other means. I guess I will find out when I get my copy and just try to be creative...

Okay then, I did two tests, first is NPR, toon III in Carrara...Looks not so great and the second is Toon! Pro, much better. Both using default settings, default scene settings and the simplest hair-do I could make in twenty seconds.

I suppose if the wrote it with a consortium file format like FBX, then it would export.

The again, other 3D software would have to use the same "hair" standards. I haven't read anything that says this is happening.

Hmmm. Interesting. Thanks for doing the test, it looks like NPR may not do a lot for the Hair in renders. Maybe a little tweaking tho...
