| [Carrara]Importing bitmaps to use as texture maps
Hi. I've been experimenting with importing bitmap images from Photoshop into Carrara and mapping them onto object surfaces (a plane for example). The images have text in them and the problem I am having is that the mapped images do not look sharp in Carrara. I have tried different export formats from Photoshop with varying resolutions and the different sampling options in Carrara with no improvement. By contrast, if I bring the same image into a program like Bryce and map it onto the side of a flattened cube the text is much sharper. Any suggestions, anyone? Jack |

Is your bitmap black and white (or does it have sharp edges)? If it is, convert it to greyscale, and blur it by one pixel. Also make sure you have anti-aliasing on. If you have a high resolution bitmap, then summed-area is good. If it's low resolution, use interpulated (sorry, don't have Cararra in front of me, so I can't rhyme off the exact names...) John |

Guys, thanks for your replies. 1024x1024 px is a good starting point. I had been working w/ some images that were lower res than that w/ poor results. The images I'm using are rgb and do have some sharp edges. Will have to experiment more w/ the sampling options in Carrara. Thanks. Jack |
