| You can't put but one object at a time in the Vertex modeler. In Hexagon you can put as many objects as you like. Plus the vertex modeler just can't handle the poly count that Hex does.

| Sneak peek - Item 19: Edge Extrusion The new edge extrusion mode lets you extrude corners of objects interactively. See the video example of this feature by clicking on the link directly below. http://www.digitalpainters.net/car/E...Extrusion.html In this image the Edge extrusion tool was used on the Sink basin , Faucet knobs, Cup and Mirror edge at top of the image. | Sneak peek - Item 20: Bridge Tool The bridge tool creates a bridge between two selections of polygons on two different meshes so that they are merged into a single object. Check out this link for a demonstration of the Bridge Tool: http://www.digitalpainters.net/car/B...ridgeTool.html The following is an example of using the Bridge Tool. Mike created the spokes and formed the holes using the bridge tool. Images Supplied By - Mike Moir Carrara 6 will become your software of choice! |

| Sneak peek - Item 21: Figure Editing It is now possible to edit the mesh of imported figures as well as create new morph targets and full body morph targets inside the vertex modeler. These pictures have nothing to do with the item above. However, they are excellent examples of the artwork coming from users of Carrara 6. Use Carrara for fields of flowers... This sounds great, but, has Carrara's performance been improved to handle that many points in the vertex modeling room without slowdown or the application crashing? That model seemed to have alot of resolution for Carrara to handle smoothly. Gustavo | |

Yes it has take a look at Sneak Peek #18. Sneak peek - Item 18: Vertex Modeler Optimizations A number of operations have been optimized to perform better on large meshes. In particular: - Moving, scaling, rotating points - OpenGL redraw speed - Subdivision surface update (when moving points)

My personal point of view is that in the last we months DAZ 3D has shown that they are committed to the further development of their software applications. Carrara 6 is part of that proof and DAZ 3D has wonderful plans for future developments. The Dynamic Clothing plugin that is coming for DAZ Studio is also coming for Carrara 6 later on. Plus they now have additional developers in the MountainView offices for the development of Carrara & hexagon and they have additional developers for the Utah division of DAZ Studio, Bryce, Mimic. The company has been re-branded to DAZ 3D, new website and forums are in place. Blogs are in place. Upcoming expanded Wiki for software and much more. The company is growing very fast. |

I consider a Dazzer one who buys content and is more concerned about new clothes for Vicki rather than being concerned about clothers for their own kids. You know the die hard membership fanatics (Dazzers). I just use Carrara. Last edited by medeamajic; 25th August 2007 at 19:44. |

You do have to become a platinum club member which will subject you to ads for buying content unless you go into your account profile and uncheck the square that allows them to send it to you.

I have never bought anything content related from DAZ or any other place and do not consider this type of offer. Thus, i'm the kind of customer who's never been to DAZ website before. But, i really like Carrara and if i want to use it and use the last features it has to offer, i know i must buy from DAZ, and it's no problem for me. It doesn't mean in any way i have to buy anything else from DAZ, nor do i consider the content offer they have. Whatever you think of DAZ, don't loose the focus on the most important : Carrara and what it has to offer ! Cheers, Laurent aka Tartiflette

| Daz is doing very well
For whatever its worth, I think Daz (and especially Ringo) has been doing a great job of reaching out to the Carrara community. We should be thankful that its been bought out by a company that IS intent on improving it. Are they doing 100% of everything I want? No. Who does? But they've integrated a lot of requested features and are doing far better (I think) than any of us expected. I'm very impressed with the new features so far. There's been quite a few additions that really mark this as a full version leap ahead. And if they are using Hexagon as a backbone, that's fantastic. Hexagon is the BEST modeller I've ever used. I think DAZ is doing very well, but the proof is still in the pudding. Once I get my hands on the software, I would like to say that they have done well. I can understand the idea of a company needing to prove itself after repeated failures, but this is a little different. People want proof that Carrara isn't just going to be a content host. I think that they have already proved that it is not their intent to do so. Now we just need to know if it is stable. |

It is good to finally get real information and screen shots. The Carrara staff seems to have made a good upgrade. I hope that the upgrade for Carrara 6 Pro is only about $89.99 with or with out a Daz membership. I would expect to see Carrara 6 listed with the other products along with a concrete release date and upgrade price. I would like to think a download version would be here by the end of September and a boxed version a few weeks later.
