My opinion is the end result will always be judged on how good it looks and not on what package was used. So not always necessary to buy the most expensive. Also my opinion is that one needs a range of tools and you get what you need as you can afford them.

I'm not big fan of Carrara also. And as I said in other thread, Carrara stills look artifical to me. So what? Is Carrara splash screen realistic? Not sure. Is it pleasure? No doubt. Any watercolor or oil painting is not realistic also. But it could be chef d'oeuvre. In terms of result.

Indeed.
C5:

C6 (?):

(Both are unrealistic, but I like them as they stand. Probably I have a bad taste.)

Yes I think C6 will have added functionality too. Carrara does very well, for instance all stuff by Aunty Betty. I put up the other movie to show what is possible with ocean shader technology not to sow dissension

I think it is important to remember that Cararra is not packaging the end result in a single tool, but giving users a tool to create an end result. It's not like they called it to a 'make cool ocean' button. I sure there are settings that will allow this tool to accomplish what could be done in C5 a little easier.

Their current gallery front page info (maybe you spotted this, I didn't at the time), regarding those clips, has caused me to be even more :

"The following is a full section of 100% CG Clips. Every clip is rendered one-pass, in camera with no compositing."

Note: Per the Software link from their homepage, their software is not currently commercially available, but ...

P.S. Maybe if we ask for it as a Carrara plugin ... .
