UV & Shader Issue

I cant seem to access the UV function for an object. So I try chaging the color to a texture map. It becomes warped. I've attached them both if anyone can help.

Is it a polygon mesh? The uv editor only works on polygon meshes.
Let me check the file anyway and see if I find something fishy

Select your face and jump into the Vertex Modeler. Select your face and then go to the uv editor and select custom. Now open the editor and assign a planar projection(like a sticker)in the axis that lines up with your face.

Now in the shader for theroom for the face assign a texture map as your color and load up your png graphic. You may have to rotate or flip it as necessary by the buttons below load/re-load.

Then go back to the VM and open the uv editor, now you should see your graphic on the UV map. In the future it helps to not have your map at the extreme edges, that way you can tweek the UV's to get the placement just right if needed.

Here's the file all done.

Select the face! I had never thought of that. Using hexagon, I didn't think I'd have to select the object's face(s) just to UV map. Thanks Grendel. Now my scene is complete! (for now) Using the lamp tutorial Thomas provided, I managed to come up with this:
