Carrara Physics Specifics

This is something I posted in another forum. I was hoping someone here could help:

Does anybody know where I could get more specifics on how the physics in Carrara work? When you have an object selected and go to the effects tab, there is a part labled "Physical Properties" which lets you assign values to density, bounce and friction. What I would like to know is what these values are based on? It has certain presets for wood, clay, ice, metal etc. but I would like to know the specific scientific values these were based on (example: coefficients for static & kinetic friction).
I'm taking a physics class right know and have already used Carrara for a simple demonstation of two dimensional motion but I want to use it for more complicated things.

Thanks for any and all help.

Hi

No, I don't think that there is some presets about physics (the only CS5 presets I know are for the IR), so I'm afraid that you'll have to search by yourself the good values. (In fact, it's impossible to list all the imaginable values and even beach balls are differents one from another).
imho -> Don't ask too much
Carrara is not that industrial. (not yet )
I don't think that 200 people are working on it and what you are asking would take more time than expected.

Piem ? What are you saying ? the OP is right...there are presets for effects/types of matearials for physics based motion objects.

@the OP , im not sure on the real world equivelents /formula that carrara physics uses, maybe only the coders know. You might do well to ask the same question to other physics engines that are used in other 3d progz, or even 3d game engine physics engines. It might be easier to actually get a response from the author/coder , some are very open.
For instance ....Walaber ..who wrote newton game dynamics...---http://www.newtondynamics.com/index.html

hes a friendly fellow i beleive...and theres a forum there too.

sorry ..Im not pushing you away, im no expert, thats all can sugest.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate the info. I might try to figure some of it out by myself. We'll see how it goes.
