C5Pro and Vista 64..

hi,,

just 'upgraded' to vista ultimate 64bit..

carrara was ok initally, but i had to reinstall the OS and when i get to rendering an animation, carrara stops/crashes after rendering more than 1 frame of animation with an unknown error,

was wondering if anyone else was having this problem,

ive repaired the intsllation, ive removed and trinstalled C5 but still the same problem..

imve run it as administrator and in win xp compatibility mode but still the same problem..

any ideas..

cheers

Try rendering the file as sequenced images instead of a movie. The symptoms sound like a video codec that doesn't play nice with 64 bit.

logical if you think about it...

tho ive had no problems with any video codec so far....

but 64 bit vista is still an enigma...

interesting that ...mark, r u using vista64 ?

(wondering if problem is vista64, or OP's pc)

So can the OP render a video as a texture at all ?

or anyone else, if the original problem is vista 64.

Just out of curiosity, in addition to sequenced, did you switch Carrara to software renderer as opposed to open gl? Just wondering how that's all coming along, Nvidia did an opengl forceware update recently for opengl on vista (I think). In any event, I'll wait till I see more smiley faces next to any Vista posts before I step in that water.

Tonymax can you get a video avi as a texture on an object ?(cube or something, would be useful to know...I make a lot of bouncing physics cubes with video's as textures )
No wurriz if youve not the time to do it.

Oh man ,thats good to know, many thanks Tonymax.

I thought it might not work .

I wonder if render to quick time works..for alpha channel use..?
Then again i guess tiff, targa or something will work for that.

Hows your render speed on vista compared to xp ?

cheers again

ive been playing with vue 6 infinite lately, so not had a lot of time with carrara..

but speed is better overall, tho i think that is moving from a 32 to 64 bit system...

an 8 second animation, with cube with and an avi of a poser figure walking (a 90mb avi file) took just a few minutes to render... thats with no frills except an infinte plane, a cube as above and a fill light..

i rendered the sequence, and used file save to save it to avi, tho i could have gone .mov as well....

cool stuff..... never rendered a rotscope before.... would love to show you it but is over 190MB, so a bit big...

also a dual core amd athlon 64 bit processor helps with 3GB RAM...

arhh so vue 6 is 64 bit app ? Nice if thats so. The word was that 64 bit was gonna help 3d work when it first appeared...i remember lightwave was one of the first to embrace it, and boasted of faster renders.I started with vue5 , then moved to carrara as i found it faster rendering.

Your cube vid , - id welcome a divx copy if u wanna show me it.That should get it down to <10mb.

Ill dig out one a mine with a physics bounce , logo animation from after effects on sides of cube.

Yeah Tonymax heres a quick one in divx format . Video is a bit subtle n fast to catch, as i rendered at 50 fps so the initial bounce bit could be in slow mo when arranged later at 25fps.

now divx /divx player in vista...thats a whole new question.

enjoy

ok i got only got it to upload to polyloop by changing extension from .divx to .avi....youll have to rename it back obviously.
or use this

hi,

cant do a DIvX as the converter does not work on Vista at all....

any other good codec converters that might work with vista....

would like to see your logo cibes as well, mine is only a basic scene, nothing fancy at all... but shows the vid working on a cube as a texture...

well next 2 choices would be....depending on the scene .
cinepak (vue should do cinepak)
or maybe render out half size -//full quality , then use winrar at best compression , should get it down pretty small.

ps thanks for the sweet review.

renaming it seems to work.
what i liked dwith the whole rotoscoping thing was the sheer quality of it.

we used this tv/cube looking thing (see piks below,[we didnt use the blade video..thats just old stuff that i can find on this pc]) , put video on it , then used it bouncing away from the camera ,and bouncing back to camera showing another side of the cube with a differnt video clip--as a video transition for a project. And the whole transition was for the most seemless.
