Nice, then you could render out in RPF or PCX or similar , adding UV and object ID to the G Buffer. Then in Adobe After effects with RE:Vision plugin "RE:Map" , you could change/distort the textures if you wernt happy with them, without having to rerender your whole animation in carrara. (Slightly limited this stuff, but can be handy.........anyone else tried this ?)
Or take you OBJ into Adobe After Efects with zaxwerks.com/proanimator plugin , and quickly animate it from presets , right there in After effects ..(some texture problems here too).
Same ,its so good to be able to get vectors/eps in to carrara, --and out with vector style...
Hey im only tryin to add to the general consensus of integration between appz is good , and important ,can save us time n make us more money, i wasnt tryin to be a smart arse.

Admittedly, some apps open a whole new window to do anything like this , and are slow at it (Boris stuff for After Effects comes to mind) ........blah blah

By the way Intel's CPU price cuts look still to be happening on April 22nd , for those planning on getting a quad core , it'll be worth the wait.

I wouldn't hold your breath guys.

I'm just about to buy Adobe CS3 and I'll report back when I've seen it. Adobe are about imaging primarily. I still run a G3 on OS9 so I can use Adobe Dimensions 3 - a vector-based 3d prog from oooh maybe 6 years ago or more that produced "sensible" versions of what Kai Krause was doing then... Invaluable for putting a depth and perspective on a vector logo ready for bunging into PSD. But that was the last issue. It sort of reappeared in Illustrator 10 - CS2, but completely dumbed down.

I would guess that Adobe are quite happy with their imaging market and see core 3d as far too niche to compete other than at the edges. Post production software is another thing entirely...

you hit the nail on the head.
there are no "REAL" 3d capabilities in CS3 other than being able to import and view a model...IE no 3D export.
Oh and that's only for CS3 "Extended" The standard CS3 has no 3d capabilities whatsoever. Be careful which one you buy.

carrara fits the bill again- for photoshop users who want some proper 3d in their print/web/design without having to resort to learning max or maya .
Same here , most of my money comes from 2d motion graphics , i add 3d when ive the time , I continually circle around photoshop , after effects and carrara .
My buddies in print n web normally use SWIFT for 3d text /objects , cos its easy,...one friend uses carrara 3d text......,,,,,,,,,,,,,one reason i dont use more 3d in my motion graphics is rendering time .......im hoping for a quad core soon to change that .

Before everyone gets their hopes to high let me burst the CS3 extended 3D bubble. It is NOT a 3Dpaint alternative as some people think it maybe.
All it really does is load OBJ 3D objects into a photoshop layer and it allows you to rotate and move in the layer. Your models cannot be SDS format and they need to be propertly UV map and textured as the format loaded is more like a very basic OpenGL render version. Once inside photoshop you can add more photoshop layers to create a piece of artwork. That is it in a nutshell.
You won't be exporting the model back fully texture as some may think.
It really is more hype than anything else.

Thanks Ringo, that's kind of what I thought... Do you see any need to get extended over standard in regard to say Carrara? Or would most people be just as well off getting the regular version?

Thanks Ringo...nobody believes me.

"extended" looks like it would help more with After Effects, and animation. what Adobe is basing their hype on, is the ability to export vanishing point info as 3D extrusions. It's match moving technology at is very basic stage. I'm going to wait a while before I upgrade... save your money and jump on ZBrush 2 before 3 comes out with the free upgrade.

I got my calendar marked may 15th, I think I can scrape up the dough.
I think Z-brush 3 should fit in nicely with Carrara and Hex and Amapi.

Well I do hope to be correct. I purchase and watch a Luxology tutorial that goes into great detail as to how to use CS3 extended and I am relating what the video shows. Believe me Luxology isn't worry that CS3 extended is competing against modo 203 3Dpaint tools cause CS3 extended is NOT a 3Dpaint application. It uses layers.

Here is the link to the video. http://www.luxology.com/store/training_series03.aspx
Spend $5.00 dollars and download it. You will learn a lot and see for yourself how this thing works.

From the Adobe Third party plugins page.

Daz 3D Studio.
Works with PhotoshopCS3
You can import and export 3D-enabled PSD files from Daz3DStudio.

Other notes

PS3 lists some 5 import and 2 export 3D file formats at least. The 3D object, and it's textures, are all live and editable.(The 3d object is stored in the layer)

From CS3 you can export 3D-enabled PDF files.

I think Adobe sees potential in Carrara and Hexagon. If Daz lets either die I think Adobe might make an offer.

I hope this is what is in CS3Extended. At least the tags on CS3 indicate that it will have 3D export capability which this one does not as yet.

A free CS3 plugin for Poser7 now available.

The Enzo paint programme seems to have bugs. Wait until they are fixed.
