Working with Lights

I've looked at the manual, and viewed some of Mark Bremmer's tutorials. But for the life of me, I'm stumped.

Here's a Poser scene I've imported into Carrara. I'm trying to add lights.

I got a Distant Light in the scene, but it appears to be pointed the wrong way. Just how do you manipulate lights? I tried going all over the workscreen, and don't have a clue.

Help?!

Just activate the global manipulator and manipulate the light.
Make sure that the light is not locked.

Ron,

Hmmm, the lights should move/rotate/etc. like any other object in Carrara. For distant lights, the rotation of the light is what's key (they have no falloff or range parameters, so moving them really isn't meaningful). I see the movement handles on the light in your screenshot. Are they not moving the light?

The light sits on the floor, and points upward. One would think the light should point to the ground.

I'm used to using a "joystick" or similar tool in the workscreen for moving stuff.

If I try manipulating an item directly, I usually have problems.

In your screenshot, the manipulator's z-axis is pointing up , the light is pointing straight down.

You can manipulate with manual value (coordinate on the right panel: like X=50; Z= 10) if you have some problem to manipulate with your hand. (maybe the model is too small, so moving the light doesn't work well)

I am very surprised! I think the movements and adjustments one can make to the lights from the screen selection are about as brilliant and simple as one could expect All those adjustments without having to type anything!

Between using the Universal manipulator AND the light manipulators (Help p246) WOW!

don't bother doing a tutorial, coz that it the result of all of these kind of threads and probably the only reason, you'll just plain make a fool out of yourself.
check out this folder, this is the path in my puter, and click on the quicktour.html. C:\Program Files\Eovia\Carrara 5 Pro\Car5ContentCD\Content C5\QuickTour\English

It's an unfortunate trend among software companies that most are no longer including a paper user guide/manual (unless purchased at extra cost). It makes learning the programs that much more difficult, and that much more likely to become shelf-ware. I understand the cost basis for this, but I'm not sure that companies going this route are really doing themselves a favor in the long run.

Am I dreaming ?
To manipulate a light is just like to click a button.
Now How do I click on a button ?

I hope the problem is fixed (Alter ego, please be kind, and tell us that the light was locked )
