Lathing Question

Hi Everyone!

Just joined Polyloop to get a better understanding of 3D programs like Carrara, Hexagon and Amapi.

I am using Carrara 5 and have been trying to lathe an Illustrator path around an axis. Can this be done in C5?

I know that I can lathe an object using a cross section, but to me at least, the drawing tools in Carrara leave a lot to be desired compared to Illustarator.

What I have done previously, is to draw the path in Illustrator, then outline the path which gives me a very nice profile of a wine glass. The walls of the bowl of the glass are spaced apart very evenly and consistently flow with the curves of the original path. After duplicating that path, I cut the path to produce the liquid (wine) which fits the inside of the glass perfectly because they are exactly the same.

Can this be done in Carrara?

Thanks in advance,

Revans

Hi Revans,

I actually did a tutorial about this using Adobe Illustrator and the Spline Modeler in Carrara a little while ago. You can download it here: http://forums.polyloop.net/software-misc-logiciels-divers/7809-all-3dxtract-available.html

It was done in an earlier version of Carrara so I mention a shading plug-in no longer needed since it's functionality is now part of Carrara. (it's the Zmorphics plug)
