Mark, Thanks for the reply. I went back to an early early version of the scene (to before I started working on just hiding the problem), and simplified it (to perhaps prove to myself that it wasn't just something odd about the camera angle and other elements). The scene is basicly that of a brick sidewalk next to a mirror finished building (simple reflective metal at this point). In the rendering, the top is a thin strip of sky (one of the standard Carrara presets). The dark strip below it is the building's dark overhang. Below that is the reflective wall of the building, reflecting the sky, a sphere on the sidewalk, and just the tinyest strip of the textured sidewalk (missing that underneath the sphere and most of the rest of the sidewalk). The sphere and a direct view of the sidewalk makes up the foreground. rj |

Mark, Problem solved. Sorry for the bother. Played around with the bare bones scene some more, and discovered that the selected Carrara sky preset had 'ground' turned on. The sidewalk and ground must have been precisely overlaid, somehow causing the renderer to have to choose which to display. For whetever reason, it apparently chose to show the sidewalk where there was a direct view of it, and instead show the ground plane (for the most part) where the sidewalk was only reflected. Very strange. Turned off the 'ground', and the problem went away. Thanks for taking the time. rj Last edited by ronjurman; 30th January 2007 at 07:58. |
