| Bullet Holes
Hi everybody! First post here, just signed up. I'm new to 3D software but very experienced in graphic design for print and web. Had to develop a logo for a client and 3D software was the way to go (to long to explain here). Purchased carrara 5.1 for IntelMac and have been fiddling and learning how to use it for the last week (all 3D software has a steep leraning curve BTW). Got the text part of the logo, the texture. lighting, shading, etc. just the way I needed for it to be. Now I'm struggling because I need to make some bullet holes (or impacts) on a metal surface and I'm lost. Tha's not all, I also need to come up with a fired bullet just as it's going to make impact with the surface of a spectra material (this is what they use to make bulletproof vests). Anybody willing to steer me in the right direction? TIA JC Halcyon |

For a dent, insert a sphere and make the right size and partly imbed it where you want. For a hole, insert a cylinder and size, lengthen and place it where it goes right through the place you want. Then, in both cases, go to Edit>3dBooleen and follow the alternatives in the dropdown. You may want to practice on things first to get the idea. This 3d Booleen may not yet be in help information--just one of those missing bits in the help. |

No, this is not going to be an animation. The final output is going to be high resolution (300 dpi) and is going to a commercial printer (stationary, brochure, etc.). I'm attaching a jpeg file with my initial work where you can see the bullet impacts. JC |

Thanks guys. The 3D Booleen option is very cool and helpful. I'm also experimenting with the Displacemente Map option, which is more complex but you have a lot more control over the final output. As I said before, this is all new to me and I appreciate your help. Rest assure I will be posting for some more help :-) JC |
