Dry Carrara 5 at VTC

I went through it but a little disappointed that the UV mapping in Carrara 5 was not touched at all.

I originally had UV mapping in my outline for the series but then omitted it. Total run time for the complete UV mapping was running two hours. Additionally, to use UV mapping effectively requires an additional application like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. There are so many variables for unwrapping, model building and unwrap mode selection, plus it starts crossing over into the realm of Shaders and shader design - there is simply a ton of content to cover with UV mapping.

So, since UV mapping was bumping the intermediate/advanced levels and the series is for begiinner/intermediate, plus pushing the total run time of the series to 11 hours, I elected to exclude it.

However, I'll be posting back when I add some free UV tutorials to the Carrara Dark Arts series on my web site.

Mark

How about a two disk set to include evrything? I have not seen the tutorial package but it might be the way to go.

Actually, I was instructed to keep it at 8 hours, so I already busted that limit. :D

The market for advanced instruction apparently drops off dramatically as people get familiar with the programs. I don't know that VTC will want to pay me for advanced instruction since they pay the authors even before the first lesson is sold.

Interestingly, it doesn't mean that people know everything, just that they learn enough to use the programs for their specific needs. That's the reason I wanted to keep adding advanced tuts to my site - something for those that like to keep stretching.

I really enjoyed your training on VTC, very well done. I have yet to see the Hexagon training, apparently the section in hex about uv mapping and such is not working for me. Please let me know if it works for you, I have send VTC an email about the problem.

Been going thru the tutorial on vtc recently to - they are all a very good introduction and quite usefull

The hexagon training has just come online since the start of this year so thats cool too - just starting that

err I thought you said it was criminal for buggy software Behzad? ;-)
actually think its rather good as all the amapi stuff reinforces the Hexagon training and all that helps me with carrara too.

Anyway thankyou MarkB goodstuff!

Hey Mark;

Great job with the C5 VTC training, this is an absolute must for a newcommer like myself. Anyone just starting out should spend the $30 for the online teaching.

I also ran through the VTC training, and I found it helpful. Certainly a new Carrara user will learn a LOT from these videos. I've been using Carrara for a few years, but I paid for the videos to fill out some gaps in my knowledge.

Very worthwhile.
