Useage

Hi guys

I originally asked if anyone uses blender on these forums but realised that it was a dumb question to ask, so I'm changing it to...

If you use blender, what other programs are in your workflow.

Thanks

Hi. I use Blender. Not yet in a professional environment, though. It's my first intro to 3d, and am still experimenting with it. The image below is one of my many Blender doodles which I just finished a few minutes ago. 3D is an on and off thing for me. I also have Hex and C5.

Excellent work! And I am even more impressed since I have never been able to do anything in Blendor despite many attempts!! I look forward to seeing more of your efforts.

Here's two more of my Blender doodles just to enliven this lonely section of the forum. I'm not even recommending Blender. It's free to download any time you want and see for yourself if it's for you. I had a difficult journey when I was starting with it, and still are. I recommend Hexagon or Silo for modeling and Carrara for rendering if you are a newcomer to 3D.

I used blender for my personnal illustrations and for my work when it was published by NaN. Then , I leaved it and switched to Carrara and now I'm coming to the past : leaving Carrara for Blender and along with it my favorite applications will be Shade, Amapi Pro and Maxwell render

Nothing wrong with that. Blender is free!

Nice bolts! Lighting looks similar to a flash photo, with a main light source near the camera. (The screws are pretty good too. )

Are you using Blender's built-in renderer for these, or another?

I have downloaded Blender, Yafray, Indigo, Python and a several scripts but have not yet installed them. I'm not leaving Carrara, but would also like to explore options not currently available with Carrara and I don't have the $$$ for XSI, Max, Maya, or C4D.

It would be nice to exchange animation data between Carrara and Blender with Collada, but Carrara does not support it. FBX may work, but I don't know if Blender imports/exports FBX?

Yes, I'm using Blender's renderer. I'd love to use Yafray, though, but it still can't handle procedural textures, which I prefer. All of the images were Blender all the way, including modeling. No photoshopping, too.

Reason why I still use Blender is because I don't want to lose it. Last time I stopped using it, I had to re-learn everything I've learned. Unlike Hex and Car, you can pretty much leave them for a couple of months and still recall where you left off. Mostly because they're windows/mac standard such as the usual icons, drag and drop and stuff like that. Carrara has the cleanest, uncluttered UI you can find on a 3d package, IMO.

I'm still not into animation yet. I'm probably using only about less than 5% of Blender. You might want to visit the Blender forums on that.

I did not realize Yafray did not support procedurals. Hmmmm....

I remember reading several threads here and on some the other forums about DarkTree Shaders, which can be used in most 3D apps, including Blender, with the Symbiont plugin. Now I'm curious if any of the independent rendering engines will support DarkTree/Symbiont as well. Time to do some research it seems.

Yeah, I'll have to start lurking over in the Blender forums.
