Question What about the new blender??

Any concensus, opinions, thoughts on the new Blender 2.43?

I have it and am looking it over... its pretty complex, but the capabilities seem to make it worth while.... the interface and tools will take some getting used to, but for me it's not nearly the issues with something like zbrush... (yep, I know they are different animals for different purposes - just looking at the learning curve).
  • I think I saw someplace that you could re-topo meshes...???

Whaddya think?

Yeah! thats another cool tool in Blender, I use Blender sporadically since version 2.1. It´s a very good program and now with the displacement , multires and retopo tools . . .

I dont use blender for my profesional work because i have so many things to learn about it and so little time to learn it, BTW the blender guide -the one in the blender store- it´s very good book but some things have change in the newest versions and others are moved. any way all the book its on the web -belive me-

Dont forget to download your copy of elephants dream . . .

One good thing is that they are splitting the interface from the rest of the code so it can finally receive a good overhaul. Thats been one of the big problems with people getting into blender.

V 2.43 seems to be a good product.
But have'nt got the time to spend 6 months learning their interface

Blender has a non-standard, very unintuitive interface. Although I use it, I don't go around recommending it. So, get ready for a big chunk of your time if you want to learn it. The previous versions of Blender has 2 main modes: object and edit modes. They added sculp mode in the latest release. Since I'm not much into sculpting, I can't say anything about it except that some folks have produced impressive images with it.

Like in the last version 2.42, where the changes were inspired by the Elephants Dream project, this time around the other additions were due to the requests of the folks creating Plumiferos.

For the next release, I think they will concentrate on fixing some UI inconsistencies or add some enhancements like icons in customisable toolbars, shortcut keys, etc . Let's just see.

BTW, Tony Mullen's book, Introducing Character Animation with Blender, has come out. I'll be buying it in a local bookshop if it's available. And I'm waiting for the next Blender Handbook which is being developed by the Blender Foundation led by Roland Hess.
