Funky bones!

I have noticed the bones do not behave like they did in version 5. Is anyone having good luck with rigging in version 6?

I would prefere you actually try the new bones rather than just post infomation I have already read. It does not work like they say.

Has anyone actually tried the new bones? I have no idea why they f'd up a good rigging system. I am a bit ticked off with Daz/Carrara and The New Poser Clone.

Hi,

the bone system in Carrara has not changed at all, it is actually only the display that has changed. You can still create bones exactly like you used to and they work exactly like they used to. The only difference is that instead of having the last joint of a chain represented as a single joint, we also display its orientation so that you can see that it is actually a bone.

We also introduced the click and drag mode in the bone tool so that you have better control on the skeleton and that you do not have to create an extra joint at the end of each limb to see the bone itself and that you can control the end point of the bone.

Also note that in the Effects tab of the bones properties, you can now control the display of bones and the end points.

Yes. However, I have not found any differences in basic usage of bones in Carrara6--are there some differences I have missed?

(From another Bones thread at DAZ forums)

You don't have problems with the hip joints when making yuor own figures? I have and so have a few others. I think it might depend on the rigging. Carrara 6 uses a bone method rather than a joint method. I think the old style was better.

Thanks for responding. It is my hip bones that get messed up. I think we need to ask for the old style bones on the Carrara 7 wish list. It is funny how the new bone system was not mentioned as a new feature for Carrara 6. I guess there is not much to brag about the new bone display of Carrara 6.

I'm not sure that one type of bone would be any worse than another type, like I don't think a hip bone should be any more problematic than a shoulder bone or a finger bone.

My problem with the display is that makinng a new bone can disrup it's parent....

I can make the arm bones OK but the hip bones come out funky. I can not duplicate the bones with symmetry like I could before. Having the old bone method would be better for me.

Boned!

I have a question pertaining to Carrara in regards to rigging. Heres an image, my problem is with the bones. The first one always seems to shoot in the wrong direction then the other follow properly. When I get to the bottom I have to rotate the bone in the right direction. What can I do to fix this because when I re-select the hip bone to go up the body I get what you see in the image.

Instead of clickign for the next bone, click and drag from the base of the parent bone. Drag in the direction you want the bone to go. That's really all the advice that can be given.

I think Daz knows most people prefer the old bone method and I can only hope we get a patch ASAP.
