Seems to me that the battle is not so much in the 3d packages but in the modeling arena. People these days crowd around Silo, Hexagon and Modo. Would it have made Caligari's position more attractive to newcomers had it taken the same route as Eovia such as coming up with a stand-alone modeler? Even if generations of Truespace 7 have reached the same level as highend ones, I don't think it will attract the same enthusiasm as the Carrara+Hexagon suite, or Modo 201 for that matter. TS7's learning curve has become even steeper than its predecessors, which is a big turn off for most newcomers. Early versions have, I think, 700+ icons on its interface. TS7 probably has more. Heck, who would spend time learning to recognize all those icons? The key these days is all about "streamlining", which is about getting rid of unnecessary options to come up with a straightforward workflow. For what else do those Silo users have in common: they are all after simple, unadulterated, straightforward workflow. Not eye candies and useless TS nurbs, adjustment rings...
