Wow, Allan. In all the emails I got from Caligari (I haven't deleted an email since sometime last year), $399 only came with the pre-order back in January, and I am fairly certain that price was in response to the people who were shocked that they weren't going to include animation features. Unless they have cut me off in emails too (at both addresses) you must not have been checking your email lately. LOL

I was also a 5.2 user. It bugged me that despite the fact that Caligari kept the price of truespace 7 at the same price as 6.6 for new users, they really stuck it to those who would be upgrading. I mean really. $595 for new users and $499 for upgraders is atrocious as an upgrade price. Serious about getting new users, but not so serious about keeping existing ones, maybe? truespace 5 in 2001, 6 in 2002, 6.6 in 2003 and 7 in 2006. Why do the people who have already bought into the product get punished because the company found it difficult to develop what they admit was garbage code?

The fact that Caligari keeps sending gimmick promo after gimmick promo (14 emails since since they announced it would be released. Pretty aggressive considering the product hasn't changed 14 times since it's realease), kind of shows Caligari isn't used to satisfying people with it's pricing. And don't get me started about the unprofessionalism associated with Caligari representitives. A representative of Caligari actually actually posted in the official forums of the free availability of one of their products as an April Fools joke. The problem is that it was still March in the States.

No company official thought that it was innappropriate to use space they claim is supposed to be official business space for perfidious purposes. Not an example of a company that deserves your business.

When I moved to Carrara 3 I had a faster and more capable renderer than truespace 5.2 (and 6.6 judging by the demo). With all the applications you say you have, you don't really need another renderer. But if you are looking, I am actually considering adding EIAS to my toolkit.

Carrara is good though. Which version are you using?
