I think you may be correct about the render-time calculation, which while less than ideal is still more useful than the (literal) hack Raydream/Carrara implementation. So long as the new version has reliable results it will still be a vast improvement. It's is also not terribly uncommon for a person to not really use Booleans, especially with bad implementation. They are mostly useful for mechanical/manufactured modeling (I've done a hella lot of sci-fi modeling,) with limited if any use in organic modeling, and when dynamic can be used for various animation purposes such as cutaways and burrowing or what have you.
Herm, another ID era feature it would be nice to see would be spline interpolation control. Ah well, one can dream--that is unless it got put in recently and I missed it. Very nice for shortcutting to low polly from spline, surface fidelity is seemingly useless.
