Yes, unstuffing works the same across many different Stuffit versions. I can see Installer and some plug in folders. As you said Installer is 1.7 Mb and I don't think you can install anything from 1.7Mbs. So, when you run installer in Classic it stops with "End of file" error message. It even creates Amapi 6.1 folder on your drive.
