At first glance, I would say that you didn't combine the points into one mesh with one polymesh. Also, since my guess is that they are two different objects, I also believe that they had different smoothing setting on them (rather it's the type of smoothing from Amapi, the level of details, or other parameter).
A wireframe picture is good, but so is the .car file as that would also us to really dig into the problem and find the reason.
