Shiny Dragon-monster tango

http://www.eovia3d.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=755&c=4

Okay, finally here my first production centering around my upcoming book, The 8th Sense. The Background was made in carrara, the boy and Dragon are from DAZ and they were Posed in Poser. The attacking creatures were self made, only the texture comes from Carrara.

Story behind shot:

Able to control all dead matter within more than twenty feet of his body, and have several other very advanced systems at his disposal, the boy cyborg Simon battles the Veliohomij infestation.

If anyone would like to keep up with the development of my Book and my comic series Phantom Wolf (somewhat related)go to my site www.deafcon1.com

I made many changes and I think fixed many problems. Any comments?

Very nice, I like the lighting. The rusty color looks much better on your raptor creatures than the green one did. One thing though is that the Raptor's talons, although they are quite frightening looking, look very impractical and fake. The length is a but much, it doesn't look like they could walk at all. Nice scene though.

Sheesh, do they really look that much like raptors? Or is Jurassic Park so prominant in everyone's mind, that's what they think of when they see dinos of any form? Check the size comparison, they're like twice the proper size.

Actually the claws are meant to be huge. Its part of what sets the species veleohomij apart in the series. Somehow, they ARE more coordinated than any species on earth and are even able to use those claws as tools. In the shot, they're a bit long though, only suppose to go to the knee, so yea, maybe I should rework them.

I don't see Raptors because Jurassic Park is prominant in my mind, I see them as Raptors because I know what raptors looked like, and they have most all the characteristics of raptors except for the scaling difference.

I know, I was just testing. Actually I wanted them to look like raptors and since you're holding out that they do, I know I did a good job! THANKS!

I did some quick measuring of the claws, they're supposed to be about the size of the animal's shin... and they are, they just don't look like it because they're being held up by the creature's double jointed toes.

I was told that other than my rather inventive animals, my main problem is lighting. It's not incredibly noticable but it looks to be coming from the opposite direction then the way we're seeing in. Not a real problem, but someone told me the light looks too strong for the flames generated by that laser being impacted to be showing so well... I don't know about that though, they're suppose to be pretty powerful rays, what do you think?

I think the flames at the end are about right brightness, but the beams themselves could possibly be darkened just a little. They do look a little unnatural.

I tried some of your suggestions, along with a few photoshop tricks:

the lighting brings out the details much better than before, but the blur around the end of the beams looks a little too overdone. Looks good though.

Well the lasers do have to be pretty hot to ignite sand so the heat they radiate should create some kind of effect... maybe I should try to create the actual scene in the story this is based on.

You see, the real scene this is related to happens in a decimated city (destroyed in the war between humans and homijs). Simon creates that red metal dragon around himself, it lets out a mechanical roar and has two large cylinders come out of its sides. These cylinders fire heat lasers that actually start to not only mow down homijs in their paths, but also melt asfalt and pavement... needless to say this happened after Simon had downloaded the programing to create some pretty sweet guns.

Really, if I'm playing by the rules right, Simon shouldn't be visible in this shot, since that dragon "suit" is really just mechanical armor he builds to protect himself.

Ah. Very interesting sounding book series. That's cool that you do the illustrations as well as write.

Well that's my novel. Really its not supposed to have illustrations, (well, maybe a fancy cover) but my comic series, The Phantom Wolf, (some vague relations to the 8th Sense novel, yes, but actually an entirely different series) is well... a comic series, so naturally the whole things is in pictures, or should be. I'm just practicing here really.

Can you help me on something? I can see I'm going to have a real problem with some of my characters. A lot of them use energy weapons, like eletricty and balls of green energy (don't ask... I don't really know I just thought they looked cool). You know a method for creating those things in Carrara? I had a hard enough time figuring something out for lasers. Blender has some tools that'll do in a pinch for making energy, but I'd like to use both programs, since each has its own advantages. It seems the only kind of "energy" carrara has a program for is fire.

Sorry, I'd like to help you on that but I haven't done much of anything with that. Maybe post on the Cararra forum.
