W00t Look Ma - dinner! Sea dragons finally finished (27/08/06) (Carrara/Hexagon)

Here's a sea monster I've been working on in Hexagon. I posted this over at www.subdivisionmodelling.com as well. If you have not been there yet then go visit. It is a great site for all modellers, beginners or otherwise .

Anyway, here's my progress so far. Any comments/feedback/criticisms are most welcome.

A rendering

Here's a quick render done in C5PRo. I'm hoping to get some more work done on this today.

I like it.. well done. One thing though.. He will go hungry if the points on those teeth are not turned the other direction. Most meat eaters teeth point inwards so that the more the prey pulls away the deeper the teeth will go inward and secure the grasp on its meal... Hey don't take that C&C the wrong way i just like my steak :]

Hey, Corndog. I don't take it the wrong way at all. It's a good point (pun not intended ) that I had not realised and I will be fxing the teeth so they point the other way. Cheers.

Hi everyone, after living off painkillers and antibiotics all week with toothache. Didn't really feel up to anything much after a day at work. They didn't do any good anyway so the tooth came out yesterday. Pretty painful but much better today and got a chance to work on this fella.

I've done some more work on the head based on feedback here and at 'subd.com. Also started to work on the body. All comments welcome.

And here are another couple of views...hopefully the full body pics are not too big. Let me know if they are and I'll re-size them.

Warning An update

Hi all, I'm still working on this one. Here's an update on progress. I've changed the teeth so he won't starve, (thanks Corndog ) added a few bits and generally tweaked. I think I've taken the model about as far as I want to now, so I've set up shading zones and will now take him into C5Pro for texture and bones.

As this is my first serious attempt at modeling something like this I'm quite pleased at how it came out. All C+C most welcome.

Textured version

I've been working on the textures for my sea-monster and here is the result. Done in C5Pro with procedural textures only. I wanted to see what I could do with C5's shaders only so there are no bitmaps.

Please comment, all feedback and suggestions are welcome.

some sea animals have in in their superior part a sediment layer, something similar to this, with a snow layer and a mixer you could have that effect

Thanks very much. I used 2 shaders for the upper part of the body and used slope to blend them but never thought of using a snow shader. When I get a chance I'll try it out. Cheers.
