She's a cutie. And very low poly, too. The color scheme/clothing is manga-typical. I really like the uneven socks, great little touch there. The knees are wrong, there should be an indent, from the front, where there's a bulge now. The kneecap should be the only outward bulge in that area of the leg. I would look at the tutorial by Thomas (our gracious host) here: http://www.eovia3d.net/showthread.php?t=5426 There's a section where he mentions that for joints (knees, elbows and wrists, etc...) there should be increased resolution of polys, that is, an extra loop of 'em so the bending would have something to deform and 'transition' the deformation of bending. Good work so far! |

For your information, I'm working on an Hexagon DVD training, and the last part will be on the building of an Anime Character.

Well I do like this style best. In my opinion Conan is not very strange... There are lots of freakier mangas. Like "onepiece" or several others. Have a look at: http://onepiece.animemanga.de/infos/...nga.php?mId=14 |

JusT : please, can you post some closeup of your models ? And some without the smoothing ;) Below is a test I made for the anime character of my DVD :

| Pixar want to hire me! ![]() | Thank you very much cartoonmike. For the blouse and the collar I started each time with a spline-circle (around the neck) and extruded the edges. The skirt was made by pulling the vertices of a cylinder to the right position and for the socks I copied the faces of the feet (without the toes), enlarged them a little and closed the hole at the front. |

Just, For my comments: your face may miss some extra polygons. I don't know if you will apply some materials on it, but the face is a little bit too "sharp". On the profile, the face is a little bit strange, the mouse isn't visible (well, yes.. but...) Try to find some resources on internet, or in the Conan manga, and try to study the face more closer. ven if the manga style can be sometime simple, it's always a feeling, because most of the time, it's a little bit more complicated ;) Keep the pressure and continue like this!

From what I understand of the history of Japanese animation, they have had problems showing emotion through eye expressions. Also, round eyes, at least 'used to' denote non-asian races. Even if they no longer have eye expression problems, and/or the thing with round eyes, these things have become a key feature in Anime.

Thank you Thomas for your comment. I will apply a texture on the face, but I thought it does not matter how rough the face is when I unwrap it first and afterwards smooth the character. Do I have to smooth it first and then afterwards unwrap it? I'm a little confused now. I know what you mean by the invisibility of the mouth... Somehow my trials to build proper lips did not work out very well. They always have strange curves or are too "sharp". I'll have a look at your Ork speed modeling head-tutorial. ![]() |
