Hi polyloopers. Been a while since I posted any finished stuff here. I just finished doing these for the organic abstract challenge over at N+P. These are all different views of the same model. Modeled, materials and rendered in modo. Slight contrast enhancement in Photoshop. Comments welcome. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posted these over at luxology as well as here, and mike modo asked how it was done. Thought polyloopers might like to know as well: So, here's a shot of the model in the view port. I used solid-sketch to do each individual strand. Started out kind of random then as I got more strands I interwove them together, adjusting existing ones as I went along. I wasn't happy with my first background so I put the whole lot inside a sphere and started playing with the mats, reflections and lighting. ![]() I used gradients for transparency, luminosity and colour and I turned off everything except 'visible to camera' for the sphere shader. Plus a lot of tweaking and re-rendering at lo-res before I was happy with the result. No Global Illumination. Final render size 5400 x 2700 pix. ![]() You can get loads of different pics out of this one model. I had to force myself to stop. At one time I had a dozen different cameras, all looking in different places. In the end I chose these three for final renders. Any feedback or comments appreciated.

i like that kind of abstract modeling/rendering, you made a nice job. Not sure about the colors you choose.... maybe it come from the multiple light (colored ?). Did you try to make a render with a Depth Of Field ? i'd love to see one with some dof.

I did try depth of field and it didn't work well in modo - was going to give it a shot in Photoshop but felt I really needed to move on from this. JB: The lens length is 10mm. How short do you think it should be! My understanding is that modo is based on a standard 35mm SLR so 10 seemed pretty short to me

![]() The third pic is from further away (and is my wife's favourite) so it stays ![]() The second is half way between the two. Hopefully 401 will make DOF more useful.
