Charles of Saint Emilion

Hi!

This is one of my last work, still in progress. He is Charles of Saint Emilion, perhaps you know the Saint Emilion French wine ;)

I started from simple ZSphere. On the original project, I though of a very long neck, to have a caricature aspect. I don't use ZSphere for the nose, eyes or ears, I prefer sculpting them directly from the simple shape of the ZSphere

The first stroke of sculpting:

An update of the sculpting

Here, I started to work on the hairs, the moustache and various edits here and there.

I decided to do a retopology. Not for animation purpose at the end, because I just want to do a still picture, but for optimizing my mesh.
At the end, I have a constant polygon density and the sculpting become a lot better!

This is the current version. I won't edit anymore the face, just working again on the hairs. I don't want to add wrinkles because I want to have this caricature aspect.
I still have to continue on the clothes, accessories...

Thanks for your comments
I did some minor updates bcause of lack of time. I worked on clothes and hairs (all "hairs" ;)), refine the lips.
I will now work on some props and will change the cigar to a pipe...

I created a pipe, in order to change the cigar as I said previously.

This is just the beginning, from ZSpheres :

An the sculpting, which is not done

I have to refine the face, I find it too "hard", not really peaceful... And will add some leaf in the head as accessories.
Comments are always welcome!

Comments is what you are asking for? "Mamma mia" is all I can say!

From the appereance of ZBrush 2 I dream about this program with some modeling tools added, alongside z-spheres.
That would be an awesome combo, seeing what you achieve from just a few balls on the screen.
Do you know if Pixologic is planning to add some quick-edge-extrude-bevel tool for ZBrush 4... 5... ?

OK, no answer needed, keep it up Thomas!

This is the updated pipe and the updated cigar. I have to work a little bit on it. I still have one accessory to do and after, I will start the textures.
I won't user the pipe, because it doesn't fit with Charles' style...

I think you are right to use the cigar.
This dude reminds me of a Col. Sanders type (from the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain of fast food restaurants in US), and he would chomp a cigar.
Thomas, this is excellent!

Great stuff Thomas. Nice style and the forms are excellent.

If you get the time, could you show us how you did the leaves on the pipe? They turned out amazing.
