Robotboy [C4D]

Here is a quick little guy I've seen while my kids watch Cartoon Network. He looked fairly simple so I though I would do one. It took about 20 minutes to get the character and about two hours of fiddling with the clouds and lights and reading the help to get the look I wanted in C4D.

Looks like you are getting along pretty good with C4D... I'm struggling a little with basic materials. they seem straightforward enough, but I have difficulty getting exactly what I want. Fortunately the UV tools with bodypaint save the day.

so are you modeling in C4D too?

Thanks all. I have used Cinema4D off and on since v.6. I usually wait for every other release to upgrade since Carrara was doing well with development and I was content to continue using it for all my renders. Now however I have come to feel uncomfortable with the direction of development and unsure of the future of the product so I am trying to concentrate on just C4D.

Carrara is still a great app that is simple to use and get good results with, but if you want great results Carrara is missing on a few things. The cost is low enough that I will continue to probably upgrade just to hedge my bets but will continue to switch to C4D.

I am not modeling in it right now, still using Amapi 8(universal manipulator,,,curse you 0 I have modeled in it before but back then I really sucked at modeling so it did'nt turn out so well; but then nothing else turned out well either ;)

I really like C4D and for anyone moving from Carrara to another app C4D is the most similar and should take the average user the least amount of time to acclimate. The tools are good and powerful but I don't like the modular approach. It really pisses me off that advanced render is sold as a separate module. If they would just bundle it in for the core cost they would never hear a peep out of anyone on this. Lightwave is the same cost as Core and does not need an additional render engine to supply features that are standard in any other package for example.

I know what you mean about the modular approach. I narrowed it down to C4D and modo. By the time I added the extra modules for C4D the cost was too much for me

So I went with modo, which I'm really liking. Shame though. As you say, C4D looked like the easiest transition from Carrara.

I have Modo as well, but they are still missing half of an entire package. They do have a great render engine but I don't like the shader setup. One thing that is nice is Photoview 360. I wish they would let us have a setup scenario for that with modo.

Yes, modo is not complete yet but I'm not into animation so there's plenty for me to learn with what is there already.

By the time I've learned how to model, paint/texture and render in modo we'll be 2 version further on
