Olympic Medal [MOI-C4D]

I've been watching a lot of the Olympics the past week and seeing a lot of medal ceremonies. So here is a quick little version of a gold from Beijing, model in MOI and render in C4D.

Added the IOC side, just a bump map and a little displacement.

Good looking medal, Grendel!
Could I ask how many polygons do you have in C4D?
Do you have to make any mesh cleanup after exporting from MoI?

Nice going Grendel - can you share your MoI export settings and a wireframe view?

Thanks.

Thanks Carrozza The whole scene 260,000 polygons and the clasp at the top is 214,000 of them. It is overkill and I could optimize it but it came out nice so I was not to concerned about it. All the little channels were cuts from sweeps and they really upped the poly count. There was no mesh cleanup at all, what was exported from MOI is what is rendered in the scene, I only added shaders and set a couple texture tags.

Thanks Ash- The export settings are kind of dependent on the scale you model at. Most of my MOI stuff is exported at 5-10deg and avoid less than .25-.3.

It really depends on how close to the camera some of the smaller components are as to how I set the avoid smaller number.

Yep from the last screenshot I see how many polygons are used for those nice smooth curves. Really MoI does a good exporting job.

I see also that you work in a cinema (lowercase here :-), meaning that your display is as large as the theatre I go watching movies in.

Please let me hijack a little your thread to make a more general question: don't you feel C4D modelling tools a bit awkward? After trying a few applications I feel like this area needs much improvement, and in turn R11 is focused on rendering.

As an hobbyist I'm always looking for an all-in-one solution and evaluated many 3D apps with educational license.
At the moment the one I feel more complete is Blender, but I it has some limitations (no ngon support, no usable bevel tool).
Carrara could do the trick, but again it seems that modelling is not its main strength, as its development cycle...
I loved Hexagon workflow but is very unstable in my machine.
Modo need a display twice larger than mine to see everything, and his snapping tools are incomplete (when I tried 302 saw that the snapping point in a subdivided mesh stays over the unsubdivided cage. Could you imagine "snapped" vertices floating over the air?).

Grendel, sorry for this long post, by the way we know that everybody enters here to watch your work, first of all. That's important! :-)

I do have a large 26" widescreen to work on, I love it. They had it on sale at Fry's Electronics here in the states for $300 US. It's not the most color accurate or the fastest refresh rate but being that I am somewhat color blind and don't play any games other than RTS it does not affect me.

Actually I like C4D's poly tools better than any other all in one. I've don't use them much beacause I model all my poly work in Amapi 8 and my nurbs in MOI and just export. I did model in C4D before Hex came out but I was not as good at it or as fluid unitl then.

Modo I have but just don't like anything other than the render engine. I have to more time into using it to offer an opinion other than that but I don't likethe modeling method. It's kind of funny because I use Solidworks for work and Luxology just licensed a simple version of their render engine(called Photoview 360) to Dassault and it looks very easy to get along with. I may end up rendering some things that way. They should look at offering that as a display set-up mode for people who don't want to model in their. I know I could set it myself but Hey, if soemone else does it that's less of my time.

Carrying on with the Olympic theme I did one of the mascots. They looked so cool I just had to, model in Amapi8 and render in Carrara.

Ahahah, that's crazy mates! Yes it was that old joke that fooled me!

Nice looking your second model, too.

But, please, don't mention Amapi 8 anymore... sad story indeed.
