| [C6pro+Hex2.2] Derelict (WIP)
Hi All, Haven't posted on Polyloop for some ime - life has been getting in the way of the important stuff like imaging ![]() Anyway, been working on this for a while, derelict spaceships are a favorite theme of mine. The ship was mostly modelled in Hex 2.2 wih some details added in Carrara Pro 6.1.2. Hex is about as stable as a unicyclist on a rollercoaster on the Mac, so I use Hex on Windows XP and Carrara on Mac Os X. Fortunately I have a MacBook Pro so I can do both on one machine thanks to Boot Camp. [EDIT] Forgot to mention, rendered in C6 Pro. [/EDIT] Textures all done in Photoshop, mostly from scratch though have used a very old couple of bitmaps I've had for years, no idea where they came from anymore. Terrains and trees are Carrara's procedurals with lots of fiddling about. Much work to be done yet. Thanks for looking. |

This is looking pretty good. I like the ship. Is this the final camera angle? I ask because I would have tried for something a bit more dramatic myself.

| Further Modelling...
I've been modelling some buildings to go into the scene, of the kind used as temporary accomodation on building sites etc. Where I come from they are generically known as a 'Portakabin', though in reality that's just one brand. It's been easy to find the reference material as I'm currently working in one! For use in the scene, I intend to cut down some trees near the back of the ship and put some of them there. As a side note, I modelled the cabins in Hex by creating the lower one, then duplicating it, roating through 180deg, and lifting it to be on top. I then added a flight of steps up to the upper one. What seems strange then is when I exported it to Carrara for this test render, why are the two cabins different colours? ![]() Thx for looking Steve |

| Latest Update
Been chipping away at this scene, slowly getting it sorted out. Here's the latest version (the first piccy), the textures have been almost totally reworked on the ship, the cabins are in the scene now, added some more ground details. Picture two is a wireframe of the ship from before I busted it all up for the derelict, and the third is just a slightly different view of the current version (no indirect lighting though on this one). Render times are getting higher, there are over 3000 trees in this scene... Thanks for looking, comments welcome, greetings to all polyloopers! |

I think that ship is really starting to look good now. Good work on the textures. Still, I agree with sadot that the scale of the trees looks a bit wrong. Foreground is ok but the ones in the background look too big in relationship to the mountains. I wonder if it is something to do with the camera angle and/or scene scale?
