Solenoid Valve

A solenoid valve I use at work in up to 10,000ft water depth. Model in Solidworks, render in Carrara. I nixed the threads due to slowing down so they are just straight stand-ins.

That does look like Solidworks with a ton of features removed. For the price of the LT cersion at $695 it looks like it would be a good package for creation but it's missing allot of import/export formats. The Proffesional version appears to have add-ons to get more format capability but they don't post the price for that version.

Hi Grendel. The LT version is good if you have another software to translate files into Rhino's 3DM format. I am going start testing it this weekend. Price for Pro version is :
  • LT = $695
  • LTX = $895 (same as LT but includes IGES and STEP i/o)
  • Pro = $1700 annual subsription, or something like $4500 for 3-year subscription discount (quoted from memory )
The LT and LTX are perpetual license, you own the working copy. But the Pro version is a "rental". No pay, no play...

Annual subscription That is the worst idea I've ever heard. I would never rent software, I feel it's mine to use whenever and upgrade to the next version or not annualy.

Thanks Thomas It took about two hours to render out an 11" x 17" 300dpi shot for laminated sheet. I just purchased a new computer I should have by the end of the month and I hope to decrease the render times significantly. Had to make a few compromises to keep the cost down under $2900.

Specs:
Dual quad core xeons(2Ghz)
4 gb ram
Quadro FX 570
XP sp2

XP SP3 is VERY near (and speeds up computer workings) and reports that IE 8 is 85% faster.

I heard about that, my brother knows a guy who had it already, I have not kept up on it. I had bought an HP with a single pentium core2quad with Vista and I took it back after two days Worst experience I ever had with a computer.

Well, my new PC arrived and I took it for a test spin with the solenoid scene and compared it to my old desktop with the same scene.

Old - P4 HT 3Ghz, 2 GB ram -------------- 55 minutes and 58 senonds

New - Dual Quad Xeons 2 Ghz, 4 GB ram -- 5 minutes and 50 seconds

The scene found here http://forums.polyloop.net/materiel-...-de-polys.html was finished at 2 mintues and 40 seconds

So I am happy as a pig in the mud
