Hey, very nice start Brian...

Makes me want to go back to Nurbs again, but I'm strong enough, resistance is not futile

Yes, it's amazing what can be accomplished when you stick with an app!

As one of the first with Hexagon, and more recently trying Amapi7.52. I can not believe how "Me" easy MoI is to work with.

And Carrara loves the 3DM files with all the parts separted ready for shading. The 6 3DM files, including the big one of the boat, only total 3.2mb.

Waitwaitwait... don't wanna miss this one!
Are you saying that MoI can export a nurbs format that Carrara reads and manage? Without tessellating the curves?

Off course there is a tesselation window before (thanks to Eovia)
Then its treated as a primitive. (no dynamic link with the 3dm file as it was the case with the Amapi7 (designer) A3D files on C5)

Nice work Brian

I agree but a nurbs viewport is often (if not always) very clean, very nice.

Anyway the model is intended to be rendered..this point is an other story.

Hopefully Carrara imports nurbs, which is not the case of many other softwares.

With a normal application yes, but with this one the learning curve is very short because all is intuitive
(of course it is not "Box modeling" because it's "Nurbs modeling")
So forget all that you know about polygons

MoI exports "Nurbs" like files, all of which Carrara likes and loves including, 3DM, IGES and LWO.
Be warned, it's so natural and addictive you will buy if you try.
Note, all the nurbs "parts" can be maipulated individually in say the Carrara Vertex room and also anyway, MoI exports to excellent quality OBJ files.

Attached is a rendering example, in Carrara6Pro, of the joined 4 parts of the 3DM file hull.

That's really nice so far. I'm going to have to get moi as soon as I can.

It's also a good advertisement for Carrara, it seems to be importing those curves quite well.

Here is some preliminary rendering tries in Carrara.

Note that I do not get involved with Uvs.

In the background is a second version of the H28 with a more correctly modelled cabin.

Just to clarify. With 3dm and iges type files I do not (for me) need to produce UV maps and I do not need to create shading domains because they are, automatically, supplied in the file save. You only have to group those "shading domains" to suit your needs.

The H28 3DM file of this boat has, in effect, only a total of 47 Shading Domains/"Polygons". (I am stretching the interpretation I suppose but it is much as that in simplicity of using.)
