My latest image. ZBrush and Carrara - I didn't do a thing. Thanks and best wishes to all of you who gave advice on smoke and glass etc. Now you can see what all my questions were for. Best Wishes. Lil' Ol Me

Your images are just plain fun Betty. I hope you put them all in a collection on a website sometime and share them with others, they deserve their own little niche someplace on one of the 11 billion web pages or whatever its up to these days. And don't forget to keep posting them here too. |

Good one Floozy visited your on-line gallery. You're a 21st century digital-Dali with a dash of Brad Holland... great combo. .... ummm... what brand do you smoke and do you use a hookah? ![]() Do you import displacement from Zbrush into Carrara? I've yet to get displacements to work in Carrara... very unpredictable and uncontrollable for me. I've tried the tuts (including Thomas') ... nada. Any tips on that? = = = Was hoping to see Popeye sitting at the bar and Olive Oyl hopping tables Last edited by Nate Owens; 10th November 2007 at 20:13. |

Hi Nate - thanks for your feedback ![]() With regard displacement mapping I tend to let texture maps and and good ol' fashioned bump mapping do the work preferring instead to model the displacements much of the time. I've actually only ever used displacements on non character mesh's in Carrara - but yes I've had to fiddle until I've got it to work well but of great importance is that you have a hi-rez displacement map especially for fine work. I've checked my notes but can't see anything that Thomas hasn't mentioned. Even in ZBrush I tend to use brushes on the actual pixols rather than create displacements. It might be useful if you opened up a thread in the Carrara section with some mesh's to share so that other may verify your results to see if things can be fixed for you? My gut instinct though would be to stick to Modo etc for this kind of work especially if you want fine detail. ..or add some of the finer detail back in with normal maps
